North Child Crying I came from the north in a chariot bound For the warmth of the sun of fire that I'd found. I found my wheel in a pit of flame. I found my soul without a name. And in the heat my life to blame For sights that I had not conceived, For lies that I had not believed, For tales I'd woven undeceived, I fell. And awoken from a sad dream, I see what I can. The coldest frost and hazy view torturing a man. I feel your life is nearing mine. I long to feel, but I cannot find. Oh please, no more, I'm going blind For sights that I had not conceived, For lies that I had not believed, For tales I'd woven undeceived, I'm crying now, I'm crying now, I'm crying now. A dying man has come to earth. His death began upon his birth. Now he must run for all he's worth For sights that he had not conceived, For lies that he had not believed, For tales he'd woven undeceived, Oh try now, oh try now, oh try now, oh try now. Look behind you, look behind you, look behind you. Look behind you, I see a sign, I see a sign, I see a sign. I came from the north in a chariot bound for the warmth of the sun. It's all run past in a leap of flame, and I'm back where I've begun. Can anyone help me now? Can anyone help me now? Can anyone help me now? Can anybody help me now? Can anybody help? Can anybody help me? Can anybody help me? Can anybody help?

Can't Deny What Isn't True Sadly meets her in the rain, tells her of a place he knows. Away from all the silent noise, Where colors tell of ageless joys; And dreaming still of ecstasy, her shadow drifts away. Too many times she's dreamt to go there. So sad that all could not be right. Away he cries without a sound, A tired world he trips around. Can't deny what isn't true. And though it seems to bring him pain, A dream alive is just a name. And somehow things just stay the same, A dream alive is just a name. Contradiction is a part of every beat of every heart. You can't escape what isn't you; You have to think a life or two. you can't deny what isn't true. And though it seems to bring you pain, A dream alive is just a name. And somehow things just stay the same, A dream alive is just a name...

Rich Men (Smile In Their Sleep) Long ago in a distant land, The gods cried out and the people ran, Born away by a fantasy That was not real, but that seemed to be; The trees would shriek and the wind would howl, Dark spirits barred the way; But the brave could lead and the meek would follow, And the cries soon grew fainter each day. Wise men speaking in dulcet tones Explained the wind and the shape of stones. Told the truth and it set them free, But they kept their slaves with their charity. They learned to sell and they learned to borrow, They learned that life was cheap. And the brave made war and the weak knew sorrow, While the rich men just smiled in their sleep. I see them, I see them, I see them, I see them, The rich men that smiled in their sleep. Our master pulls on our strings for fun, He gives us choice, but there’s only one. Fills our brains with a fantasy That is not real but that seems to be. We live to buy and we live to borrow, We sell ourselves so cheap; And we dream about the great tomorrow, While the rich, they just smile in their sleep. I see them, I see them, I see them, I see them, The rich that still smile in their sleep.

Revelation 06:19
Revelation Pass the empty hours of day waiting for the warmth of darkness, Try to shield your wounded eyes from the light. Soon the tendrils of your mind will seek out the distant promise As your senses drift away in the night. Speaking plainly isn't done; we must all disguise our feelings, Not show love, desire, or fright; never cry. We should think in black and white, and avoid all complications. We'll be easier to love if we try. Rage is everywhere, no one is above temptation. There's no reason to be fair -- break the seventh seal. Nothing ever seems to change. Nothing ever stays the same. Though we long for something new, we need endless repetition; Same old stories, same old songs, same old lies. It's a wonder we don't scream, choke upon the contradictions Of the fascinating schemes we devise. Rage is everywhere, no one is above temptation. There's no reason to be fair -- break the seventh seal. Nothing ever seems to change. Nothing ever stays the same. Nothing ever seems to change. Nothing ever stays the same. Break the seventh seal. Let the mountains shake and cities fall, I have no will to save them. Yet I'll surely miss these stony eyes And empty hearts and wasted lives in time. Nothing ever seems to change. Nothing ever stays the same. Nothing ever seems to change. Nothing ever stays the same.

No Sound 03:03
No Sound See the smoke against the sky, A shadow on the burning sun, A fleeing moment on the run. When the tears burn in your eyes, You know they’re from another day That always made you feel this way. And I remember all the things you said, Chilled and tired, we were nearly halfway dead and done. Sorrow in the afternoon, Repentance is the martyr’s game, You feel remorse, I feel the same. Precious moments end too soon, You never want to see them die, You can’t control it but you try. And I remember all the things you said, Chilled and tired, we were nearly halfway dead And done with all the fires we’d started, Smoked out, suddenly the trees had parted; Clear fields stretched beneath the waning moon, We stood there in a waking swoon, Couldn’t make a sound, no sound. Smokey mist before my eyes, Nobody ever plans for this -- You cannot see what you have missed. Who’s the fool and who is wise ? Here’s something I once heard before: Don’t spoil what was by wanting more.

All Hallows 02:56
All Hallows Far away in a bleak September, Far away in a world we knew I can't understand all the words you are saying, Can't understand all these feelings so new. Oh, come away to the night we hallow, Come away where the light seems true. While I can't understand all the things that you promise, I can't yet imagine a world without you. Rivers melt and the season changes, Hearts of ice in the morning dew. I can't understand anything you are saying, Can't understand what we're now going through. Oh, come away to the night we hallow, Come away where the light seems true. Though I still feel your heart and remember our promise, I now can imagine a world without you. Run from the cold touch, the hard touch of winter, Just fly to the sun when it comes into view. Nothing to fear when there's nothing but promise, Nothing but promise, I made one to you... Oh, come away to the night we hallow, Come away where the light seems true. While I can't understand all the ways we are changing, I now understand there's a world without you. Far away in a bleak September, Far away from a world we knew, I see what we were and remember the feeling, A ghost of the world that I once shared with you When dreams were all new.

Harlequin 04:30
Harlequin At this crossroads I’ve never seen, I’m half awake, half in a dream. Not a soul in sight at the edge of town, I just stare and feel the sun go down. And I’m drawing near, and I’m far away, And I think I got there yesterday. I had a home, but I couldn’t stay, Don’t ask my why I ran away. Late at night I still see your face, Can’t believe you’ve gone and there’s no trace, But I’m tired enough and I just don’t care, Maybe you were never really there. When I’m drawing near, but I’m far away, And I think I got there yesterday, Then I start to dream and I start to burn, But I know there’s nowhere I can turn. Harlequin, you don’t recall the things you learn at all. Here I stand alone, the truth does hurt, the heart is stone, And everyone’s just flesh and bone, just flesh and bone, Like you. At a crossroads I’ve never seen, I’m half awake, half in a dream. There’s no going back, there’s no end in view, Doesn’t seem there’s much that I can do. Am I drawing near, am I far away? Do you think I got there yesterday? I don’t see the point, but I never do, I guess I’m always passing through. Harlequin, you don’t recall the things you learn at all. Here I stand alone, the truth does hurt, the heart is stone, And everyone’s just flesh and bone, just flesh and bone, Like you.

Trancing 03:41
Trancing You feel me, 300 miles away, tearing along on a highway you barely see. Hear me whisper your name, it’s a daydream, I can’t scream, I can’t even cry now; you Feel me, hear me – what does it mean, are you just going crazy? It’s something so strange, hard to explain... Keep what you want and discard all the rest, Love comes and love goes, it’s all for the best. Don’t explain what you feel now, I already know, Take what you need, and then let the trance go. I feel you, 300 miles away, tearing along on a highway I cannot see. Hear you calling my name, it’s a daydream, I can’t scream, I can’t figure out how I feel you, hear you – what does it mean, am I just going crazy? It’s something so strong, hard to explain... Keep what you want and discard all the rest, Love comes and love goes, it’s all for the best. Don’t explain what you feel now, I already know, Take what you need, and then let the trance go. But you feel me, 300 miles away, racing along on a highway you barely see, And I feel you too...

December 03:01
December Dead brown leaves look like heaps of rags Under filthy snow and old plastic bags. I’m aware of it all, but I really don’t care, With my eyes turned inside, I am just barely there. I don’t know what to think, I don’t know what to feel, I’m a thief in the night but there’s nothing to steal. I seek reason and truth, and it’s hard to explain, Every reason I find is quite truly insane. Had a dream that you kissed my hand, Drew a cross on my heart with a golden band. I’ve tried changing my mind, I’ve tried changing the view, I tried running away, but my heart stayed with you. I don’t care anymore, I don’t care what they say, Sure, I’m probably wrong, and I’ll see that some day. I seek reason and truth, but it’s hard to explain, You can see only light and yet feel only pain. As the days turn to weeks, and the light disappears, You are left to survive in a season of tears. All my dreams are in shreds, all my hopes are intact, Don’t be fooled by these words, ‘cause it’s all just an act. I don’t care anymore, doesn’t matter to me, Live in darkness or light, it’s whatever will be. And your eyes in my dream were so loving and warm, I’m alone in my bed, lie in wait for the dawn, For the dawn, For the dawn.

about

Rob Glaser Townshend, Vermont

Rob Glaser is the stage name of one Robert Glaser. At age 13 he took up guitar, and without even tuning it, wrote a song. After this short experimental period, he learned to tune properly, and continued to write and perform in a wildly unsuccessful career in NYC and Chicago. Recently Rob has been holed up in his studio in a cabin in Vermont continuing his life of artistic futility. ... more
